Just a little shoot inspiration. This is the style I want to adopt when creating images for my style guide. Simple concept.. But effective lighting technique.

FMP Update..
I think it is about time I give a brief update on how i'm getting on with my FMP.. Have been a bit lost the last couple of weeks - falling behind due to my questionable amount of motivation. Just can't stay motivated...need some inspiration from somewhere.
I am well under way with my research.. development is lagging slightly but I know what I have to do. I'm off to Birmingham on Monday to get another lot of street style photos - so look out all you best dressed people!
I did a shoot in the studio last week.. originally just to help out a stylist/MUA, but as the pictures have turned out quite well I am considering using them myself.
A very simple concept, but I love the lighting.. Any thoughts?

The development of street style photography is the prodominant topic of my research at the moment. I feel that in order to get a good idea of what I am looking for on the streets I need to know what street style is about and how it has changed.. if at all. My starting point has been portrait photography, exploring how people once wanted to be viewed when having their photograph taken. August Sander, one of the 20th Century's greatest photographers, photographed difference 'kinds of people'.
Only a small selection, but all very interesting. You can see from the way these three people are posing that they are aware of how they are being viewed and what their status is in society. Back in the 20th Century everybody was always well dressed, even if you didn't have a lot of money, a large over coat would be worn to hide the ragged clothes underneath. The man's expression in the first photograph looks very aware and almost paranoid of what the photographer is thinking.
This third image interests me most.. You are able to see that his clothes are not in the best condition but he poses sternly..
I want to look into the history of street photography and how public portraiture has developed. How have peoples attitudes to street photography changed? Have peoples atttiudes changed towards it since it first began? Do you think people enjoy being photographed on the streets now? It has definitely become a more frequent thing, especially as it is a tool adopted by the fashion industry.
Any thoughts?

It's timeeeee for the Brits!!
I've just popped the telebox onto itv1 for The Brits & i am loving the award this year. Vivienne Westwood has done an amazing job in designing 2011's award, staying true to her punk roots and dressing the little Britannia statue in a union-jack toga dress. To make it even better the award supports Westwood's environmental beliefs with the slogan "Stop Climate Change" written along the bottom.. SO GOOD. Apparently, from now on a top designer will be designing the statue each year, so i can't wait to see what the next designer can come up with..

So Retro.
Have been knee-deep in research for the past couple of days but after today's find, it has definitely been worth it. I have come across American photographer Alex Prager and instantly fell in love with the 70's inspired heroines' in her shots. Will definitely be using her as inspiration for some of the shoots in my Style Guide. Still stuck on a name for my book.. Any ideas?
Check her out at.. http://www.alexprager.com
